Albertsons Companies Partners with Trace Register to Elevate Seafood Traceability
BOISE, Idaho and SEATTLE, Wash., March 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Albertsons Companies, the second-largest food and drug retailer in the United States, has selected Trace Register, a global leader in full supply chain seafood traceability, in a major step towards fulfilling its industry-leading Responsible Seafood Policy and Commitments.
Albertsons Companies, which operates 2,300+ stores across the U.S., has an aggressive goal to ensure 100 percent of its top 20 fresh and private label frozen seafood products meet the company’s stringent Responsible Seafood Policy by 2022. This commitment means that approximately 94 percent of products (by volume) sold in service cases and freezers will be either Green- or Yellow-rated — which are the highest ratings given by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch Program — certified to an equivalent environmental standard1 or sourced from fisheries or farms making measurable and time-bound improvements. The company has similarly robust commitments for sushi and private label canned tuna.
“Trace Register’s leading-edge monitoring and analytics will help track the movement of our products from the oceans or farm all the way to our U.S. distribution centers so we can verify that our requirements for sustainable, responsible sourcing are met,” said Anthony Snow, Director of Seafood, Albertsons Companies.
Trace Register’s TR+ Analytics with CMCA (continuous monitoring continuous auditing) will enable Albertsons Companies to meet sustainability specifications in the seafood supply chain on every shipment. Along with FishWise, Albertsons Companies’ seafood sustainability consulting partner, the company will be able to continuously audit progress towards its sustainability commitments and monitor each shipment for compliance. These advanced reporting tools ensure that complete information is provided and verified in near real time.
“We’re excited our traceability platform will enable Albertsons Companies to achieve their sustainability goals,” said Phil Werdal, CEO, Trace Register. “This proactive approach means they can also achieve improved efficiency, lower costs, and reduced risk.”
Trace Register uses a revolutionary approach to verify every product source. The solution is built on a powerful platform to handle robust data requirements and leverage global business communication standards. Data from multiple sources about multiple products is in one system of records so information can easily be shared. Analytics are used to verify data as trustworthy and send automatic alerts in near real time to drive corrective actions, improving compliance and product quality. The complete product origin history is provided while proprietary information is kept confidential.
